Firearms permit

The nine conditions

• Be of legal age.
• Not have been convicted as perpetrator or accomplice of any offence listed in the firearms act.
• No past compulsory psychiatric admission under the 1990 act.
• Not have been interned under the 1930 social protection act.
• No current or former withdrawal of a firearms permit whose grounds still apply.
• Submit a medical certificate confirming the applicant can handle a firearm safely.
• Pass a test on knowledge of the applicable regulations and the handling of a firearm.
• No adult living with the applicant objects to the application.
• State a legitimate reason: hunting, sport shooting, particular risks, self-defence, collecting or cultural activity.

For sport shooters

Sport shooters must hold a valid sport shooter's licence and may purchase firearms that appear on the permitted list.
